Tecno launched the Tecno Spark 7 on 9 April 2021. The phone is part of the Spark series by the company which is known for its budget-friendly smartphones. The Spark 7 is the successor to the Tecno Spark 6 which was launched in 2020 with a 6.8″ display and an Helio G70 chipset for INR 9,798.
With the Tecno Spark 7, Tecno has gone against everyone’s expectations and made a phone with weaker specs compared to the Tecno Spark 6. The phone goes for Rs. 8,499 which is very affordable and although it has some good specs, it is weaker compared to its predecessor, the Spark 6.
Tecno Spark 7 Specifications in India
The Tecno Spark 7 is 9.53 mm thick and just like its predecessor, its build is made of a glass front, a plastic back and a plastic frame. It comes in 3 colors, Morpheus Blue, Spruce Green, and Magnet Black. It is a 4G phone but is also supports 3G and 2G networks on its Dual SIM slots.
The phone uses a 6.52 inches IPS LCD display with a 720 x 1600 screen resolution. This leaves the display with a pixel density of 270 pixels per inch and a 20:9 aspect ratio. It has an 81.8% screen-to-body ratio. The display features a waterdrop notch design which houses an 8 MP selfie camera. However, just like in the previous Spark series phones, the display on the Tecno Spark 7 doesn’t have corning gorilla glass. This is one of the reasons why Tecno Spark series phones display scratch and break easily. For this reason, I would advise people to use a good quality screen guard which is around Rs. 209.
For software, the Tecno Spark 7 runs on HIOS 7.5 based on Android 11. This is an upgrade to the software version on the Tecno Spark 6 which runs on Android 10. For chipset, the Spark 7 is powered by a MediaTek Helio A25 which has an octa-core CPU and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Again, this is a weaker chipset compared to that on the Tecno Spark 6.
The amount of RAM and internal storage has also been downgraded on the Spark 7. The phone is equipped with 2GB of RAM + 32 GB storage. There is also a 3GB RAM + 64 GB storage model which has the highest amount of memory you will get on a Tecno Spark 7.
The rear camera of the Spark 7 has 2 sensors despite it having 3 camera cutouts. The sensors are a 16 MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and an AI lens. These sensors are backed up by a quad-LED flash which is placed next to the sensors. For video quality, it records 1080p videos at a maximum of 30 fps. This camera setup is similar to that of the Tecno Spark 6.
In the battery section, the Spark 7 has received an upgrade and a downgrade at the same time. The battery capacity has been bumped up to 6000 mAh but there is no fast charging. With such a big battery, fast charging is always a necessity since it will take almost an hour before you get at least a half-charge. The battery is charged via a micro-USB 2.0 which is not such a big deal as the phone is meant to be affordable.
Other features on the Spark 7 include; Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM-Radio, GPS, fingerprint sensor(rear-mounted), accelerometer, proximity, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Tecno Spark 7 is not a worthy upgrade. If you own a Spark 6 or a Spark 6 Air, the Tecno Spark 7 would be a loss in several ways. The Spark 7 has a smaller display, less amount of RAM, no fast charging and it has a single camera at the back. Although it costs less and comes with Android 11, it is not a worthy upgrade. The Spark 6 and the Spark 6 Air offer much better specs, especially the Spark 6.
