Tecno is reportedly preparing to launch its next-generation Camon series phone, the Tecno Camon 17. The Camon 17 will be the successor to the Camon 16 series which the company launched last year. The upcoming Tecno Camon 17 has already received FCC certification back in February and it has now been listed on Google Play Console and Google Supported Devices list which shows it will be powered by a powerful gaming chipset. The listing has revealed some of the specifications and design of the upcoming phone. The renders below show the front and rear design of the upcoming Tecno Camon 17;
From the renders above, we see a similar design to the Camon 15 series. There is a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera and a small chin at the bottom of the screen. The rear render also shows a camera module similar to that of the Camon 15 with a fingerprint reader next to it.
The Tecno Camon 17 will have a 720 x 1600 screen resolution with a 320 DPI. It will be powered by a MediaTek Helio G70. This chipset performs significantly better compared to the Snapdragon 660 and is ideal for mainstream smartphone users and mobile gamers. For gaming, an efficient, high-performance Arm Mali-G52 class graphics processor operates up to a speedy 820MHz.
The chipset is equipped with MediaTek HyperEngine Game Technology which adds a wealth of new features that speed up game load times, create reliable, low-latency connections by managing multiple networks, intelligently manage resources to provide consistently high FPS while also maximizing battery life, and offer new tools for development artists that can improve in-game image quality. This means that the Camon 17 will be able to able to play high-end games like PUBG Mobile, Fortnite, and COD Mobile. However, don’t expect high graphic settings.
The phone runs on Android 11 out of the box with HIOS skin. It has 6 GB of RAM but there are no details about the internal storage. However, like it’s Tecno’s culture, we can expect a 64 GB and 128 GB model. Even a 32 GB model is the most affordable variant.
It will have a 5000 mAh battery which will support 18W of fast charging via a USB Type-C. The fingerprint sensor on the Camon 17 will be rear-mounted and next to it there is a vertically aligned camera setup. The size(MP) of the rear cameras and the front cameras is not known. However, the phone will have a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Now that we know the Tecno Camon 17 will be powered by the MediaTek Helio G70, there are some features that we can predict will come with the phone. First, you can expect that the Camon 17 will have the Voice Wakeup feature which optimizes platform size and minimizes power use for voice assistant services.
Second, you can expect multiple cameras on the Camon 17. From the Tecno Camon series history, our best guess is a 48 MP main sensor, an ultrawide sensor, a macro sensor, and a depth sensor camera setup at the rear. The front camera(selfie camera) will include facial recognition.
About connectivity, the Camon 17 will have 4G connectivity and not 5G. This includes dual 4G VoLTE for voice and video calls. It will have GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and FM Radio.
In the camera section, you can expect features like AI Face ID(Face Unlock), AI Smart Photo Album, Single-Cam/ Dual-Cam Bokeh, Hardware Warping Engine(EIS), Rolling Shutter Compensation engine(RSC), MEMA 3DNR, and Multi-Frame Noise reduction.
As for the price, our best guess would be between $250 (Ksh 25,000) – $320 (Ksh 32,000).
