The Samsung Galaxy M series first came to light in 2019 with the very first devices to be launched being the Galaxy M10 and the Galaxy M20. From then on, the Samsung Galaxy M series has continued to grow in the smartphone community and Samsung continues to freshen the series with new devices every year. Although they don’t all fall in the high-end smartphone category, the Galaxy M series comes with some good specs. They are known for their massive battery capacities and multiple camera lenses. However small the size of the display, Samsung always finds a way to include a sizeable battery with it.

On the other hand, some of them also come with weak processors which an only good enough for light day to day task and not processor intensive activities like gaming.

As I had mentioned before, not all Galaxy M series smartphones are powerful. As it can take too long to state each and every specification of the 17 phones, I’m going to group them into categories. This is by placing smartphones with almost the same or similar specs in the same category. These categories are going to be; 1080P displays & 720P displays, AMOLED & PLS TFT/IPS, Snapdragon & MediaTek processors, Over 32 MP main camera & Below 32 MP main camera. As Samsung provides android version upgrades for most of them and batteries with over 4000 mAh, we are not going to categorize them based on the Android version or the battery size. Battery capacity is really not an issue in the Galaxy M series.

Anyway, if you’re looking to buy a Samsung Galaxy M Series smartphone, this is what you should know;

Display Type

Only 8 of the 17 Galaxy M series smartphones sport an AMOLED display. This is quite understandable as the rest are mostly entry-level devices that are meant to be budget-friendly. The 8 which have an AMOLED have higher price tags as they are also powered by Snapdragon or Exynos processors. The fact that they use AMOLED displays means that you will have very deep blacks and a well-lit screen even under direct sunlight. They also have the advantage of higher energy efficiency compared to the LCD panels as only the required parts of the screen are lit which is why you see true blacks. These eight smartphones are the;

The Galaxy M series comes with only 3 types of chipset. These are Qualcomm Snapdragon, MediaTek, and Samsung’s baby Exynos. Although Snapdragon processors are mostly the preferred option, some Exynos processors also provide decent performance. This means you shouldn’t overlook a device that you really like just because it has an Exynos chipset. This is how the Galaxy M series smartphones can be categorized in terms of the processor type;

It’s 2021 and smartphone technology has really advanced. I’m sure a kid in 2030 will read this and laugh hysterically wondering what it is we’re talking about. However, nowadays you need at least a 32 MP main camera if you want decent photos with your phone. It might seem a bit much but it is worth it, believe me. If you upgraded from a 16 MP to a 32 MP you would be blind not to notice the difference. A 32 MP is enough to shoot 4K images which are very clear and almost all devices support 4K nowadays. Most of the devices in the Galaxy M Series feature a 32 MP main camera with other lenses included. Some like the M31s and the M51 go have main cameras of up to 64 MP which shoot amazing photos. Anyway, here are M series smartphones that have a 32 MP main camera or above;

  • Samsung Galaxy M40
  • Samsung Galaxy M21
  • Samsung Galaxy M21s
  • Samsung Galaxy M31
  • Samsung Galaxy M31s

Which is the best Galaxy M Series smartphone?

Currently, that would be the Samsung Galaxy M51. The phone was launched in 2020 and it comes with a 6.7 inches FULL HD+ Super AMOLED display. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor which is a decent performer. It comes with up to 8 GB of RAM and has a 64 MP main rear camera and a 32 MP selfie camera.
