Apple finally launched the first Apple over-ear headphones, the AirPods Max. However, s it is Apple’s sole tradition, the Apple AirPods Max will drain your bank account as they don’t come cheap. The AirPods Max goes for $549 which is not anywhere near affordable. However, Apple boasts that they offer high-fidelity audio, Adaptive Equaliser, spatial audio, and Active noise cancellation. These are the same features on the Airpods Pro which leads us to believe that Apple just slapped a fancy headband, some cushions, earcups, and a fancy name to the AirPods Pro and decided it’s time to make money. Well, this is not a surprise as we’ve seen it for many years in the iPhone series.

Although the AirPods Max boasts of these great features, there are some cheaper over-ear headphones that offer the same features as the AirPods Max. They even come at half the price. That’s why we listed the 5 best over-ear headphones alternatives to the ridiculously expensive Airpods Max with Noise Cancelation.

1. Sony WH-1000XM4

It’s obvious the Sony WH-1000XM4 are the best over-ear headphones alternative to the AirPods Max and they come at literary half the price. The Sony WH-1000XM4 goes for $278 as they have been regularly discounted over the past months. These headphones have the best noise-canceling capabilities, very good voice quality, and even supports up to 2 simultaneous Bluetooth connections. However, the USB-C port cannot be used for audio.

2. Sony WH-1000XM3

The Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones are the 3rd generation of the 1000X series. The headphones are equipped with extraordinary noise canceling, very comfortable cushions, USB-C charging, and the best battery life of up to 30 hours. Over the past months, the price of the Sony WH-1000XM3 has significantly gone down from $349 on launch to around $229 specifically on Amazon. This is still significantly cheaper than the AirPods Max. However, the bass response is not that good and the touch controls are still a pain.

3. MicroSoft Surface Headphones 2

Also, the noise-cancelation on the Microsoft Surface Headphones isn’t as good as that on Sony or Bose headphones, it still does a pretty good job. Coming at $224 on Amazon, the Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 offer terrific dial controls, excellent multipoint Bluetooth support, and perfectly good battery life. The earcups can also rotate 108 degrees so that they can comfortably rest on your neck when placed on the shoulders. However, the only downside is that the sound quality is not the best, the headband can cause discomfort during extended use, and also the headphones can’t fold for more compact carrying. Apart from those few underachievements, the Microfost Surface Headphones 2 are a good AirPods Max alternative as you save up to $300.

4. Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless Headphones

The Momentum 3 Wireless headphones boast of premium noise-canceling and although they are really good at noise-cancellation, they cannot measure up to the Sony X1000XM4. On Amazon, the Sennheiser Momentum 3 wireless headphones go for around $349. For this price, you get a smart pause, active noise cancelation and transparent hearing, soft ear pads made of genuine sheep leather, automatic pairing mode, and multi connect features.

5. Beats Solo Pro

Almost everyone nowadays has beats headphones. Whether it’s in the gym, commute, or famous musicians and DJs. The Beats Solo Pro headphones were built by Beats and Apple. They come with the Apple Silicon chip just like the AirPods. They go through the same quality assurance testing as Apple products, hence making it a pretty good alternative if you still want an ‘Apple’ product. The headphones offer very effective noise cancelation, very good sound quality, comfortable cushions, and increased sweat resistance. The Apple H1 chip also allows for seamless pairing with nearby iPhone’s or iPad’s. All this for $299 on Amazon. However, as the headphones are a bit old in the market, they don’t include an auto-pause feature and a USB-C port.
