In this post we’re going to look at the best google chrome alternatives for your Android smartphone. Google chrome has been and still is the best android browser today. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s the only browser you’ll find on app stores and even the google play store. Today there are hundreds of browser’s on play store alone. However, most them have either pretty ugly designs, are slow or are not user friendly at all.
We can all agree than the loading speed, user friendliness and other features like the incognito mode and ad blockers are some of the things we look for in a browser. Google chrome for android doesn’t include an ad blocker but it’s really good when it comes to speed and user friendliness. However, if you don’t like it, there’s a ton of options.
The list below consists of what i believe are the best google chrome alternatives. I’ve used all of them at some point and i’ve found them pretty good. Some have really good features, like ad blockers, free VPN’s and even dark mode.
1. Opera Mini
Opera Mini has always been my favorite alternative to google chrome. This is because it comes with a ton of features than you won’t find on chrome. For one, the app has a dark mode. I know that Chrome has it’s dark mode too but the one on Opera Mini browser is way better. The browser also comes with a file-sharing feature that allows you to share files via Bluetooth directly from the app. Another cool feature on the browser is the Adblocker. The Adblocker has 2 options, you can either choose to completely get rid of ads or you can allow only acceptable ads that are approved by Adblock Plus.
There’s also a data saving feature which I find very useful especially in areas with poor network i.e 2G networks. As seen from the screenshots above, the data-saving feature allows you to choose between automatic, high, and extreme data saving mode. Still, you can reduce the quality of the images which will in return help your pages to load faster.
The app is easily available on google playstore. However, the browser takes a bit more time to launch compared to google chrome.
2. Brave Browser
If you’re looking for a browser that is a bit similar to google chrome, brave browser is your best bet. The browser is really fast and comes with features like the incognito mode to enhance your privacy. The app boasts of a secure, fast, and private browsing experience. It comes with an Adblocker which according to brave browser, blocks ads infected with malware. The browser also has features like HTTPS Everywhere, script blocking, and 3rd party cookie blocking.
Brave browser also has brave rewards where you are paid in the form of tokens for viewing ads. Now don’t get too excited the getting paid part because even if you spent the whole day swiping through small pop-up ads at the top of the screen, you’ll end up earning close to nothing.
According to my experience, brave browser is the best if you’re concerned about privacy and security. But in the real sense, it’s second-best as duck duck go browser takes the top spot.
3. Firefox Lite
Firefox is always the second option for computer users. For the Mozilla Firefox diehard fans, there is a Firefox version for your Android smartphone. However, Firefox is a bit bigger in size compared to Firefox Lite which is why I decided to feature the lite version in this list. On google play store, Firefox is around 63 MB in size whereas Firefox Lite is less than 10 MB in size.
Firefox is known for it’s focusing on privacy and Firefox Lite offers just that. It comes with an incognito mode feature, Adblocker, Dark mode, and around 5 themes. The browser also offers a smart shopping search feature. The feature allows you to compare prices easily on popular shopping sites. Cool right?
In settings, there’s a Turbo mode. The Turbo mode lets you browse faster by blocking ads and other 3rd party content. It is almost similar to google chrome’s lite mode.
Dolphin Browser is not that popular. However, if you’ve never tried it, I can assure you that you’re missing some really cool features. The browser is really fast during the first launch and even when browsing.
The browser has a dark mode that can be activated by opening the control panel which is located at the top right corner of the browser. Here, you can choose to use the fullscreen mode(without phone status bar), add tabs, activate the incognito mode, switch to the desktop version, and even activate no image mode.
In the browsers settings, you get an Adblocker and the Gesture and Sonar option as seen in the image above. The gesture feature allows you to assign specific gestures to specific URLs/websites. For example, you can assign the gesture ‘y’ to YouTube which allows you to immediately switch to YouTube. On the other hand, the sonar feature, once activated, will launch the voice search when you shake your phone.
This browser focuses on free and fast video downloading. Also, if you’re looking for a browser that allows you to share memes and Gifs via WhatsApp, UC Browser is the best google chrome alternatives.
The app is available in play store in 3 versions; UC Browser, UC Mini, and UC Browser Turbo-Fast download. However, in this post, we’re only covering the UC Browser. The app is around 57 MB and it allows you to save your friends WhatsApp status and memes by logging in your WhatsApp account on UC Browser. It also enables you to win cash and vouchers by inviting friends but it’s not that easy.
Browsing is very smooth, especially when on Facebook. This is due to a Facebook mode that speeds up Facebook. Other features on the UC Browser include; Dark mode, fast download, cricket card feature, data saver, file transfer, and an Adblocker.
If you’re not into google at all, bing is the. best google chrome alternative. The app is available on the play store and it not that big. The browser is the real definition of minimal. What you see from the first tab of the image above is the look of the home page. However, the HD background automatically changes from time to time. It also has an image search feature, which is similar to Google Lens and a voice search option.
At the bottom, you find a Math helper that can come in handy especially for students and a Covid-19 tracker which keeps you up-to-date with the latest statistics. In settings, you get an Ad Blocker and a safe search feature.
Another browser that is not that famous but comes with some great features. Aloha Browser is one of the best google chrome alternatives. Aloha is in a way similar to the dolphin browser when it comes to the looks. However, it has 2 features that none of the browsers in this list has. A free unlimited VPN and an option to password lock tabs and apps. In my opinion, I think the password secured tabs are way better compared to the incognito mode. Apart from these 2, the performance is pretty good in terms of browsing and launch speed.
The browsers listed above are not the only google chrome alternatives for your Android smartphone. If you think there’s a browser that’s good enough to be on this list, just mention it in the comments and we’ll add it to the honorable mentions section.
