ZTE has announced that it will be launching the Axon 20 5G in China in September 2020. Making a smartphone with an under-display selfie camera has its own challenges but it seems ZTE has come up with a solution to that. This comes as a surprise as most people expected companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, or Apple to be the first to come up with the technology.
However, it seems ZTE is determined to deliver a device with not only an Under-display selfie camera, but it will also be 5G enabled. Considering that ZTE has had amazing success when it comes to modern smartphone displays, it just shows you they might succeed in this one too.
ZTE is known for coming up with a foldable dual-screen phone, the pressure-sensitive display which is used in most gaming smartphones nowadays and the first naked-eye 3D display.
As for the specs of the Axon 20 5G, not much is known. However, ZTE has released some renders of the Axon 20 5G which combined with some leaks moving around, it gives a significant amount of details on the device.

Advantages of an Under-Display camera
As I had mentioned before, building a smartphone with an under-display camera comes with its own challenges. This is because it limits the choice of display to OLED. Still, with the OLED display, it’s really difficult to make truly transparent OLED displays with current technology. However, there are also advantages to this technology were yet to experience. Here are just a few;
- It doesn’t require moving parts
- It takes up less space
- It offers you a full-screen experience
- We can finally kill the notch
- Look cool. Who wouldn’t it?
