The Microsoft Surface Duo is finally official. The device is Microsoft’s first Android phone. The dual-screen phone was announced on 12 August 2020 and it’s going to be available for shipping as of September 2020. Windows and devices chief Panos Panay even went ahead to say that the phone is probably the sexiest device they have ever built. The Surface Duo is going for a starting price of $1,399. One of the amazing features on the Microsoft Surface Duo might be the custom UEFI which enables full control over firmware components.

The Microsoft Surface Duo comes with an 8.1 inches PixelSense Fusion display. The display is divided into two 5.6 inches displays which are connected together by a 360-degree hinge. The display utilizes AMOLED panels with a 2700 x 1800 screen resolution and a pixel density of 401 PPI.

However, a single PixelSense Display has an 1800 x 1350 screen resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The Single PixelSense Display also has a total pixel density of 401 pixels per inch. For screen protection, the device is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass technology.

Software & Hardware

The Microsoft Surface Duo runs on Android 10 paired with Microsoft’s Duo UI. Meaning all Android apps can run on this device. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 which is optimized for dual-screen experience. The chipset comes with a 2.8 GHz Octa-core processor and an Adreno 640 graphics processor.


The Surface Duo comes with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. There’s also a 128 GB storage model. It comes with a MicroSDXC slot that supports memory cards of up to 256 GB.

The Surface Duo only has one camera which can be used as a selfie and rear camera. The camera is an 11 MP shooter with an f/2.0. Don’t undermine it. It can shoot both 4K and 1080p videos at 30fps & 60fps. The camera has features like auto low light mode, HDR multi-frame capture, 7X Super Zoom, electric image stabilization, dynamic range scene detection, and portrait mode with adjustable depth. However, it doesn’t have an LED flash.


The phone draws power from a 3577 mAh battery ‘dual-battery’ which has an 18W fast charging capability. The battery is also Non-removable. According to Microsoft, the phone can provide a full-day battery life.
