The Infinix S series has been around for a while and we’ve seen some descent performance from the budget smartphones. The Infinix S6 has not yet been officially announced and so the Infinix S5 is the latest in the series. The S5 Pro was released in early but to me it’s just a Tecno Camon 15 Pro dressed in a different skin.
The S5 pro goes for around ksh 17,000 – ksh 21,000 but the prices may vary depending on the location and shop from which you purchase the device from. The phone is actually the first of the S series to feature a pop-up camera. The phone’s specifications look quite similar to those of the Camon 15 Pro. The Infinix S5 Pro comes in 3 color; Nebula Black, Quetzal Cyan and the Violet. The violet variation is however really appealing to the eye.
The phone sports a 6.53 inches IPS LCD display with an 83.8% screen to body ration. The display has a 1080 x 2340 resolution leaving it with a 395 pixel density. The display on this phone is really clear just like the one on the Camon 15 pro.
The colors on this display are very vibrant and sharp. Watching movies on the Infinix S5 Pro full display is really fun and immersive.Due to the huge size of the display, the phone is slightly broader and it might be hard to operate it on one one hand.
The phone runs on Android 10 out of the box. The device also runs on a Mediatek Helio P35 chipset. As for the CPU the phone runs on an Octa-Core 4×2.3 GHZ Cortex-A53 coupled with a PowerVR GE8320. With this processor you won’t have to worry about lagging in games or when multi-tasking.
The chipset can be directly compared to the Snapdragon 630.However, the Helio P35 offers slightly better performance than the Snapdragon 630. When i used the phone, i didn’t notice any lag.It responded very fast when launching apps. There was however some lag when entering the passcode.
The phone comes in two variants; 64 GB/4 GB and 128 GB/6 GB internal storage and RAM respectively. You really don’t have to worry about storage. Except when you shoot long video’s. They take a lot of space.
At the rear the phone sports a Quad camera setup. The camera’s are a 48 MP main camera, 2 MP depth sensor and the third is a QVGA low light camera sensor. This is similar to the one on the Camon 15 Pro.I clicked some picture’s during the day and the result was impressive.
The phone produced sharp and perfectly saturated images with balanced color contrast. It was neither too bright or faded.I also took a few macro shots and they were really really good. The phone blurs the background giving the nice bokey effect. Even after zooming in, i could still a well detailed photo. The colors are very well toned on the high resolution display but they take up a lot of space so you might wanna reduce the number of pictures a little bit.
At the front, the S5 Pro sports a single 16 MP pop-up AI camera. This is the most unique feature abut the device.I shot some pictures with the selfie camera and they were quite standard. When the pictures were clicked in a well-lit room, the phone made the pictures uselessly bright. In other words, the excess exposure resulted to low contrast and loss of details. The AI mode however produced good shots.
The Infinix S5 Pro comes with a 4000 mAh battery. This is a battery and it managed take me through a whole day even after some light gaming and photography sessions.
The Infinix S5 Pro is a really good smartphone with a powerful chipset and a good camera. Just like the latest Camon 15 Pro.The display is huge with a descent resolution, the processor is powerful enough and the battery doesn’t disappoint. Not forgetting it also has a pop-up selfie camera. This is why i think it is the best alternative to the Camon 15 Pro if you’ll looking to cut down your budget a little.
