The Tecno Camon Series has always been about camera performance. The latest addition to the series is the Tecno Camon 15. The previous camon smartphones were not always that good due to the 720 P display they came with.I used the Camon 15 to shoot some pictures just to see if the camera’s were as good as Tecno boasts.
The Tecno Camon 15 sports a quad camera setup at the rear. The setup houses a 48 MP main camera, 2 MP macro sensor, a 2MP sensor which i think is a depth sensor and a QVGA lens. The 48 MP is quite huge and this is actually the reason i wanted to see if the camera can deliver.
For the selfie camera, the Camon 15 has a single 16 MP camera with a punch hole design. This means that the camera is a on a small hole at the top of the front display. We’ve seen this design in other smartphone brands like Xiaomi and it is quite attractive to look at as it leaves a huge display for you to use.
Camera Interface And Shooting Modes
After you launch the camera app, you can be overwhelmed with the shooting modes you find. The shooting modes on the Camon 15 include; video, AI cam, Bokeh mode,Super night, Beauty,Panorama and AR shot that has stickers for the Snapchat fans. I however think they think ridiculous. I have always disliked the beauty mode as it make the human skin too smooth and fine and what you end up with is a fake image of you. I know that’s the whole point behind the feature, but i think we should accept our flaws.
The video mode also allows you to to scale down the MP of your camera from the default 1080 p to about 480 p. This really comes in handy especially when you don’t have a lot of storage to store the huge 1080 p videos. The same way, the selfie camera also has the same option but i wouldn’t encourage you to scale down this one as you might end up with blurry pictures.
The pictures from the 48 MP rear camera are spot on. They are well lit and the camera manages to capture the colors as they are. The images however don’t appear well toned as they would appear on a 1080 p display. The saturation of the images is also fine but not the best. The macro sensor also shoots really detailed images.
You might not want to zoom in more than once as the image quickly looses quality and you start seeing an unclear image.
Night shots are awesome. The dedicated night mode is fantastic. The images were well lit considering it was at night although you still need to use the LED flash on really dark subjects.
The front camera can also shoot in night mode. You’ll however need to activate the front flash which also serves as the status indicator. The light is however not as much as you would get from an LED flash. The images are however tolerable.
The camera’s on the Camon 15 are really good, but i think the images would appear much more attractive on a 1080 p display. Like the one on the Tecno Camon 15 Pro.
